it is popularly said that , if the tops of chigi of a shrine are cut horizontally , a female god is enshrined there , and if they are cut vertically , a male god is enshrined there . 千木の最端部が水平に切断されているものは女神、鉛直に切断されているものは男神を祀ると言う俗説がある。
